Germany is world's most energy efficient country
Germany is the most energy efficient country in the world, according to a study published Friday, while China is rapidly improving its energy efficiency.
The study by the Washington, D.C.-based American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy ranked the world’s 16 major economies according to which countries had done the most to gain energy efficiency.
Germany took the top spot because of its mandatory codes requiring both residential and commercial buildings to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent, putting them at 2008 levels by 2020.
"We are pleased to win a second title in a week's time," Philipp Ackermann, the deputy chief of mission at the German embassy in Washington, told reporters on a conference call earlier Friday, referring the country’s recent World Cup victory.
Ackermann added that Germany’s economy has managed to grow while increasing efficiency and reducing the negative environmental affects that come with the energy trade.
"We all agree, I think – the cheapest energy is the energy you don't have to produce in the first place," Ackermann said.
Italy came in second, with the help of its efficiency in transit, and the European Union as a whole came in third. China and France both tied for fourth, with Britain rounding out the top five.
Mexico was ranked at the bottom of the list, and experts say they are concerned that efforts to improve efficiency in the United States and Australia are not moving along quickly enough.
Australia, which abolished a carbon tax on Thursday, landed in 10th place. The country got high marks for its efforts to conserve energy during building construction and manufacturing, but was last in terms of efficiency in transportation.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is skeptical about climate change, and the study noted there was a “clear backward trend” of consumption in the nation.
The United States, the world’s largest economy, was near the bottom of the list, at 13th place. The study said the U.S. has made some progress but wastes a “tremendous” amount of energy.

Vergüenza bronca e impotencia. Eso es lo que siento al vivir dentro o a un costado de la sociedad israelí: en su gran gran mayoría se trata de un cúmulo de individuos que han sufrido un lavado de cerebro sistemático, desde chiquitos. Cerebros lavados y lavadores de cerebros profesionales; victimarios que de alguna manera lograron desarrollar un mecanismo de autoconvencimiento, una completa insensibilidad frente al sufrimiento del otro – todo esto combinado con un sentimiento de superioridad indeleble, paradójicamente mezclado con ignorancia, vulgaridad y un racismo virulento. El racismo y la discriminación, aplicados tanto en el plano personal como institucional.
Una sociedad como la israelí, que nunca quiso ni busco la paz, esta destinada a a desaparecer. Tal es el destino final de las democracias étnicas.
Hablar se torna peligroso
Los diarios y los sitios en la web de noticias en hebreo, narran la guerra de manera tal que cualquier duda sea eliminada. Las noticias se enuncian como pequeñas piezas de discurso adoctrinador, que es repetido como mantra en el bar, en el café, en las universidades, de padres a hijos, de oficiales a soldados. Es así que no hay huecos en el imaginario local, casi no existe la izquierda ni la critica: abolidos. La autocrítica es traición. La mirada de odio y de placer del sabra israelí ante los ataques por tierra y los bombardeos, es evidente.
Hace unos minutos me encontré con un amigo argentino. Coincidimos en que es imposible hablarle a la mayor parte de los sabras. Sus miradas cambian, los ojos giran, cambian de órbita hacia adentro; parecen zombis. Su amargura y rudeza son innatas, pero se potencian con el odio. Para ellos la guerra, todas las guerras israelíes son morales, no se las pudo evitar. Son guerras impuestas por el enemigo. Ellos son el oasis de oriente medio, son el milagro, son los elegidos. O a la ney matogrosso: son la rosa de Hiroshima.
Disparan y lloran. Lloriquean mientras matan y construyen nuevos asentamientos en los territorios ocupados. Ellos no quieren matar pero matan. Quieren la paz en la guerra. Y se lo creen!
A no confundirse los que visiten Tel-Aviv, mundo de mini shorts, pop americano y multisexualidad. Debajo del pastito cuidado, de la gente paseando perros o andando en patín, detrás de la literatura local de medio pelo a la que le gusta leerse en tramas infantiles o dramitas cotidianos, detrás de boutiques divinas y el mundillo tanto corporativo como artístico, se esconde una perversidad guerrera, una santificación de la muerte propia y ajena, y se rinde culto al eterno consenso sobre la conquista y la opresión.
Pero este palabrerío tan adjetivado quería ser solicitada: solicito a mis amigos coles, a los que de alguna manera se criaron – como yo – dentro de las comunidades judías en Latinoamérica, con ese dejo de izquierda idish, con determinada alegría de vivir rodeados de seres humanos diferentes, seducidos por la diversidad – que llego el momento de desdecirnos de manera rotunda de Israel: separar por fin el judaísmo de la doctrina nacional de este país acabado. A contrapelo de lo que aprendimos en la escuela – sionismo es racismo. Sionismo es también una forma de antisemitismo. El prototipo de ario israelí fracaso, y en su fracaso, como durante las ultimas semanas del nazismo en la guerra, quiere borrarnos a todos – quiere volar todos los puentes. Quieren morir en el odio automático y la pasión erótica por la guerra.
No apoyar mas a Israel. No aportar dinero que el dinero estuvo y estará destinado a plantar bosques sobre pueblos palestinos destruidos. Que el dinero va para seguir construyendo la infraestructura de los asentamientos en los territorios ocupados y así anular cualquier plan de división territorial. Que el apoyo es utilizado para matar gente, asesinar chicos, probar nuevas armas, criar nuevos soldaditos zombis, carentes de ideas independientes.
Mirar a la cara a esta gente, y más en época de guerra, da miedo. Son rostros de gente que tiene nauseas cuando se utiliza la combinación de palabras “derechos-humanos”. Para ellos los derechos humanos son antisemitas. Justo ellos, que son los primeros antisemitas del planeta, los que se burlan del que no vive en Israel y lo consideran infrahumano. Ellos son los que utilizan la historia del pueblo judío como excusa para asesinar. Y todo para crear un país tan insulso, tan falto de creatividad, de humanismo, de literatura, de imaginación. Ellos son los que crearon un país en el que los militares son héroes culturales. un país en el que las mujeres, para recibir igualdad de derechos, se convierten e imitan a los hombres. La mujer liberada es la mujer-hombre, la que abandona sus atributos para entrar en las guildas masculinas. Su mundo interior es el que se negó a imaginar un territorio pacifico, en el que la vida, la creación y la alegría, reemplacen al erotismo de la violencia.
¿Cómo vivo en este país? ¿Cómo conciliar con la idea de que mis impuestos aporten de alguna manera a la manutención de un sistema opresor y antidemocrático? Esas son cosas que me vengo preguntando hace bastantes años. En una época tenia la idea narcisista e inocente, de que algo podría cambiar, y que yo podría contribuir a ese cambio. Pero la unica solucion viable es la re-emigracion, acto de por si complicado, aunque no imposible. Creo que se acerca la materializacion de ese acto.
Este país esta acabado y es una vergüenza. Somos una vergüenza. No quiero vivir con la vergüenza a la que me llevaron mis decisiones de adolescente.

Bueno, si es permitido gritar muerte a un grupo étnico específico ¿Por qué tanta sensibilidad con lo que los nazis decían hace 70 años ? Al final de cuentas todas las acciones de estos israelíes orates están validando de bizarra manera lo que los tan odiados nazis hicieron antes, nada más que de manera personal me parece que los nazis tenían - a juzgar de los hechos - algo más de razón.

What is it about the Germans? Yes, yes, I know we are not meant to mention the war, or rather wars. But how can we not do so, when for centuries the world paid tribute to Germany’s prowess on the battlefield? The Roman writer Tacitus and the French revolutionary Mirabeau alike marvelled at the Germans as a society of supremely disciplined warriors.
Field-Marshal Sir Harold Alexander wrote ruefully from Italy in 1944, lamenting the difficulties of the Allied armies, struggling to make headway in mountainous terrain. ‘Unfortunately,’ he said, ‘we are fighting the best soldiers in the world. What men!’
Today, even if the warriors are gone, the national genius for disciplined pursuit of purpose persists. In the seven decades since Germany abandoned militarism and espoused democracy, it has brilliantly translated the skills that made its armies so often supreme on the battlefield into economic, industrial and indeed social success on an equally awesome scale.

“How America inspired Third Reich”, publicada por el portal británico The Week en 2008, ha sido revivida por las redes sociales en estos días, a propósito de las denuncias sobre maltrato y hacinamiento de migrantes latinamericanos —sobre todo menores y mexicanos— que logran entrar sin documentos a territorio estadunidense.
The Week resalta del libro de Romo que los visitantes mexicanos eran obligados a desnudarse y ser sujetos de “investigaciones” (en busca de homosexualidad, bajo IQ y “deformidades físicas” como dedos redondeados) y de “desinfecciones” con varios fumigantes tóxicos, incluidos químicos como la gasolina, el queroseno, ácido sulfúrico, DDT y, a partir de 1929, con Zyklon-B (ácido cianhídrico), ni más ni menos que el mismo que se usó para el Holocausto en los campos de concentración nazis.
La justificación dada para la fumigación era el temor a una epidemia de tifus. Sin embargo, en 1916, el año anterior a la instauración de tales “baños”, sólo dos casos de tifus ocurrieron en el barrio más miserable de El Paso.
En 1938, tres años antes de la primera muerte debida al plan genocida de la Solución Final, el químico nazi Gerhard Peters publicó un informe completo en la revista científica alemana Anzeiger fur Sahahlinskund sobre la planta de “desinfección” de El Paso. Incluyó en el infiorme dos fotos y algunos diagramas de la maquinaria usada para rociar el Zyklon-B en vagones de ferrocarril. Peter procedió a obtener la patente alemana para el Zyklon-B.
Debe notarse que aunque los estadunidenses rociaban a sus víctimas con químicos tóxicos, restringieron el uso del Zyklon-B a los transportes y la ropa. Sólo podemos imaginar los efectos que tuvo en los miles de mexicanos de todas las edades, quienes después de ser expuestos a un baño en DDT o en gasolina, eran enviados a casa con ropa empapada en Zyklon-B.
