As Tamiflu-resistant cases of H1N1 swine flu virus continue to grow worldwide, the first known case of human-to-human antiviral-resistant swine flu transmission has just been discovered.
The challenge with influenza viruses is found in their unpredictability - and the H1N1 swine flu virus is no exception. However, with the over-use and mass distribution of antiviral remedies like Tamiflu, the prediction of antiviral-resistant strains being transmitted from person to person was not too difficult to call.
Tamiflu-resistant strains have been on the rise worldwide. Australia reported their first case on Friday, and Roche announced 23 cases of Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 to date.
But human-to-human transmission of antiviral-resistant H1N1 is something else entirely - and this has been observed for the first time. Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made the discovery among two infected girls who had attended a summer camp together. When the camp had experienced an outbreak of H1N1, it widely distributed Tamiflu to its staff and to the campers - and this action led to the establishment of a Tamiflu-resistant swine flu strain that would later leap from one girl to another.
The H1N1 swine flu pandemic has made headlines around the world, and the awareness has led to liberal distribution of the antiviral Tamiflu. The discovery of this new transmission has put scientists on alert worldwide.

WASHINGTON - Vaccinations against swine flu are likely and probably will begin in mid-October, assuming soon-to-start studies go well.
The government will fully pay for any autumn vaccination program against the new H1N1 swine flu, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said on Thursday.
"We have already appropriated about a billion dollars to buy the bulk ingredients," Sebelius told a swine flu "summit" of state and local leaders at the National Institutes of Health
She said another $7.5 billion was available from emergency preparedness funds.
President Barack Obama telephoned the NIH all the way from Italy Thursday to tell a meeting of 500 flu officials not to promote panic — but to make sure "we are promoting vigilance and preparation."
Saying the potential for a significant fall outbreak is looming, Obama said steps taken now to prepare are crucial to protect "our neighbors and our friends and co-workers."
Swine flu may have faded from the headlines but it's still sickening people here and abroad and is certain to worsen when influenza-friendly fall temperatures arrive. The federal government called together health and education officials from every state to check their preparations for the likely prospect of vaccinations and determine how they'll handle flu-riddled schools.
"I want to be clear: This summit is not about raising alarms or stoking fears. It is about being prepared," Sebelius said. "We must avoid complacency."
Sebelius says no final decision has been made. But she says first in line for shots likely will be school-age children, young adults with conditions such as asthma, pregnant women and health workers.
Studies of the brand-new vaccine are set to start in early August, and the government will make its final decision once results are available. But Sebelius told officials from all 50 states Thursday to figure out now how they would deliver the shots to people who need them.
The government estimates that 1 million Americans so far have been infected with the never-before-seen virus known formally by its scientific family name, H1N1.
Spreading throughout the summer
No longer do many public health experts warn of the new virus' "return" in the fall. Summer's heat and humidity usually chase away influenza, but the swine flu has never left. Children are spreading it in summer camps, and U.S. deaths have reached 170.
It has spread worldwide, and is causing larger problems in parts of the Southern Hemisphere, where it's currently flu season.
In the U.S., even if the virus doesn't mutate to become more dangerous, greater spread is considered inevitable as students return to crowded classrooms and temperatures drop — and regular winter flu makes its own return.
"This fall, it's daunting, all that will be required," said Paul Jarris, executive director of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.
At the top of his worry list is finding enough workers for two vaccination campaigns.
The 100 million-plus doses of regular winter flu vaccine are set for the usual October inoculation start. But those shots won't protect against swine flu.
Within a few weeks, manufacturers will deliver test doses of a swine flu vaccine for a study to see if they're safe and seem to work. If so, the Obama administration will quickly decide whether to press forward with a second swine-flu vaccine campaign — and determine who would be first in line.
Looking back at school closings that disrupted the spring, communities also are struggling to determine when such a drastic step — one that has the chain reaction of parents missing work — is necessary.
A key theme to Thursday's summit: Consider now how your family would handle a disruption even bigger than what happened last spring when the outbreak began. To spur those discussions, HHS will host a contest — at http://www.flu.gov — for the best anti-flu video to turn into a national public service announcement.

A lo largo de la historia las epidemias de influenza han registrado un “rebote” meses después de su primera manifestación, cuando aparentemente el problema de emergencia sanitaria había sido controlado.Esta segunda oleada siempre ha resultado más letal que en su primera aparición. ¿La causa? La impredecible mutabilidad del virus.
En la situación actual de la epidemia de influenza tipo A (ver página 4) que afecta a varios países del mundo, es previsible el mismo comportamiento del virus, por lo cual el rebote sobrevendría a finales del otoño próximo (noviembre-diciembre).
El experto en control de enfermedades infecciosas de la organización Sanitas Internacional, Carlos Arturo Álvarez, advirtió que en la crisis actual el clima cálido ha ayudado a frenar el contagio del virus, pero en cuanto se acerque el invierno podría revitalizarse, pues le es propicio el ambiente frío.
Agregó que lo conveniente ahora es contener la propagación, porque baja la probabilidad de mutación del virus.

La secretaria general de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, Margaret Chan, descartó que haya suficiente evidencia como para oprimir el botón y hacer la vacuna pandémica.
En conferencia de prensa, Margaret Chang advirtió que si este virus evoluciona, no se debe olvidar a los países del hemisferio sur.
"Estamos trabajando, queremos seguir con la producción de la vacuna pandémica", expuso.
La OMS determino elevar el nivel de pandemia de 4 a 5 por el virus de la influenza porcina.
Keiji Fukuda, director general adjunto de la OMS, dijo que es difícil decir si estamos o no ante una pandemia.
"Esto se decreta cuando hay transmisión de un virus en diferentes países y es el caso, y se espera que pudiera haber más casos en otros países", apuntó.
No obstante, por definición, una pandemia se alcanza cuando se llega al nivel 6 de la alerta mundial y aún estamos en el nivel 5
Chan expresó que la organización no recomienda cerrar las fronteras ni la restricción de la gente con productos y servicios.

Tontos mexicanos paniqueados: si no hay cubrebocas entonces...
Los cubrebocas apenas sirven para evitar propagación de saliva infectada, por si mismos no son medicina ni remedio ni incluyen en su modalidad genérica algun agente antiviral (aunque en Hong Kong una compañia está por lanzar un cubrebocas con agente antiviral), por ello piensen, si ya no hay cubrebocas, no le engrosen la cartera a alguien más, pueden usar en su defecto:
- Un paliacate bien doblado (caray ni modo, a los "buenos" mexicanos a ver si no les da ataque de nervios lucir como disidente de izquierda y gente de protesta)
- Improvisar un cubre boca con paños de microfibra como Vileda (un tejido muy fino) doblados varias veces
- Usara varias capas de esos otros paños conocidos anteriormente com Magitel y que son muy similares en composición a los cubre bocas.
Si lo desean en la cara exterior rociar muy poco de algun agente antiviral de Clorox o similar en tanto no sea nocivo para la svias respiratorias, pero esto ultimo lo veo inecesario pues en realidad contra el nuevo virus no hay nada.
Piensen !
Los cubrebocas por si mismso, azulitos o blancos con resortito no salvan vidas solo tapan bocas y eso lo puede hacer muy bien otro tipo de paño o textil.
Los medios y la gente paniqueada exponen esto de lso cubrebocas como si fuera en si el negarle la vida a alguien.

I also thought it exceedingly strange that these rather obscure county officials would make the public declarations that emergency "pandemic vaccination programs would mean a line of cars 41 miles long" in Guadalupe County, but that San Antonio's drive-thru vaccine's line would stretch from "San Antonio to Calgary, Alberta Canada" --- strange, because this just happens to be the planned route of the AMERO FREEWAY -- connecting the late-great U.S.A. with Mexico and Canada. Could this, too, be a coded message to insiders?
Just as NORAD was conducting "mock" terrorist drills on the morning of September 11, 2001 - could this May 2 event be TIMED to announce the release of the planned pandemic and the eventual advent of martial law in North America?
Today, Friday, April 24, 2009 - according to USA TODAY, the BBC, and the Associated Press, the World Health Organization (WHO) is "very, very concerned" about a very strange "swine flu" outbreak in Mexico City.

This "control room" is where any declarations of "pandemic" will originate. On 23 rd April 2009 the world began to become aware of a very strange new version of swine flu H1N1 in Mexico with limited cases in Texas and California. By the morning of the 24th of April, we began hear that there were hundreds of sick and 20 or so dead. By late in the day, we have learned that over 1,000 are now reported ill and over 60 are reported dead. There are solid reasons to suspect that this new Mexican Swine Flu is NOT a naturally occurring event but instead is an Advanced Biological Warfare recombination DNA genetically engineered virus.
Here is what we know of the virus so far. This virus has already gone international having crossed the border from Mexico to America. All schools in Mexico City have been canceled, millions of students told to stay home due to Mexican Swine Flu. Sick victims of this strange new virus are currently reported in California and Texas. Over 60 deaths reported in Mexico (could be substantially higher considering the state of Mexican health care and reporting).
Young healthy adults seem to be the most at risk. This is similar to the deadest killer flu in history, Spanish Flu in 1918. Most if not all nations with advanced biological warfare programs have been interested in recreating the Spanish Flu DNA sequence and several are reported to have done so.
The new Mexican Swine Flu has elements of DNA from the following: avian flu, human flu Type A, human flu Type B, Asian swine flu, and European swine flu. A strange combination never seen before and having less than 1/10% chance of being a natural event. Human and animal viruses from four or more continents suddenly recombine in a new flu during a non-flu season that spreads from human-to-human with a 10% fatality rating.
Over 1,000 reported infected in Mexico; true rate may be much higher. Mexico City seems to be the epicenter of the new virus. Mexico City has 20 million citizens, most terribly poor. Mexico City is notorious for its poor sanitation and public health. "Don't drink the water" has been the byword in Mexico City for decades. It is the perfect breading ground for an explosive growth of this new killer virus. Mexico City has closed all schools, public gatherings, public buildings. People are wearing medical masks on the streets. The government has announced a massive new emergency swine flu vaccination program that will be, at best, either totally non-effective or of very limited effect, and could be, at worst, a deadly option for patients. It is thought that the authorities are trying to contain public panic by announcing the vaccination program.
Both the World Health Organization and the US CDC (Center for Disease Control) have announced, today/24th April, that they are 'very concerned' about a global pandemic developing out of this new disease. Based on advanced biowargaming projections, it is already too late to stop the global spread of this new killer disease. Based on the three waves of Spanish Flu, the latter ones being more lethal, fatality rates may range from approximately 10% to 40% or so in later waves. More people could die in America, Mexico, Canada, Europe, and globally from Mexican Swine Flu than died in World War II.
This new flu is a lab created advanced biological warfare DNA genetically engineered virus that either: (1) Escaped accidentally from a lab; or (2) was deliberately released by a nation or non-state organization or a well-trained individual.
If there is a positive side to this coming global disaster, it may force governments to quickly come to grips with containing advanced biowar attacks. This is of considerable short term importance as Israel is apt to attack Iran by no later than mid-July 2009. The Iranians, having hired a large number of key ex-Soviet advanced biowar scientists 18 years ago and having spent billions on their asymmetrical MAD (mutually assured destruction) counter-force, are expected to respond to any significant attack on Iran with a biowar attack on Israel, North America, and Europe using in-place agents and dozens of genetically engineered viruses, many with very high projected kill rates.
This event is an advanced biological warfare event. It is far more important than 9/11 and, by itself, could bring deaths in such magnitudes as to exceed the number of deaths from all causes in the Second World War.
