‘Israeli spy planes flew over Budapest'

Two Israeli aircraft appearing to be spy planes flew near Budapest's international airport last week but did not land there, Hungarian media reported Thursday.

According to the reports, the planes were on a "spy mission" that may be connected to the assassination of a Syrian national in his vehicle Wednesday in the Hungarian capital.

The two Gulfstream planes, reportedly equipped with the IDF's finest intelligence means, flew through Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania before entering Hungary's airspace, the media outlets said. The aircraft were said to leave Hungary after completing their mission, without ever landing in the country.

Responding to media questions, a spokesman for the Hungarian Defense Ministry said that the Israeli planes were on a diplomatic mission.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said that air traffic in the country is under the jurisdiction of the local aviation authority. The Ministry refused to address questions regarding the nature of the mission that prompted the Israeli planes to arrive in Hungary.

The identity of the Syrian national assassinated in Budapest had not yet been published. Hungarian police officials said an unknown assassin shot the 52-year-old Syrian while he was driving his car. The shooter grabbed a black briefcase from the vehicle before fleeing the scene of the attack, police said.

Two of the hostages killed were identified as Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka, the couple who ran the centre, said a spokesman for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.

Their 18-month-old son had been one of three people rescued from the centre on Thursday.

In a telephone interview with CBC News from outside the centre, freelance journalist Arun Asthhana said there are reports that some of the militants had stayed at a guest house there for up to 15 days before the attacks.

"They had a huge mass of ammunition, arms and food there," Asthhana said.

Mumbai Attackers "White Foreigners," "Neatly Dressed" with "Blonde" and "Punkish" Hair

One police officer who encountered the gunmen as they entered the Jewish centre told the Guardian the attackers were "white", although this could mean they were paler-skinned Indians from the country's north. (Or it could mean they were actually white, as the police officer himself said. - IL)

Cafe attack

Not far across town, Judith Rosta, a German teacher from Vienna, had completed a shoot for a music video for two Indian singers and was walking past the market at Colaba, the hip, touristy hub of posh south Mumbai, with her Russian girlfriend, Valentina.

She says she was buying papayas when she noticed three men on a motorcycle stopping on the road and taking out "big guns".

"They wore white jeans and T-shirts. They were shouting, getting agitated and waved their guns around.

"I dropped my shopping and began walking away towards my hotel. Minutes later, a friend called up saying that there had been a bloody incident of firing in the area," she says.

Leopold Cafe owner Farzed Jehani: 'A grenade was thrown in to the restaurant'

Hours after the shooting at the Leopold Cafe, a cult city cafe and a favourite hangout of foreigners and locals alike, the place smelt of stale beer and bleaching powder.

Broken crockery from a market stall lay strewn on the sidewalk. Fresh blood stains on the bullet-pocked wall were mixed with the old betel- leaf spit stains.

Locals say the orgy of killings in Mumbai began here. Three men walked into the cafe, drank beer, settled their bills and walked out. Then they fished out guns from their bags and began firing.

Gaffar Abdul Amir, an Iraqi tourist from Baghdad, says he saw at least two men who started the firing outside the Leopold Cafe.

He was returning to his hotel from the seaside with a friend when he saw two men carrying bags and brandishing AK-47s walking in front of them, shooting.

"They did not look Indian, they looked foreign. One of them, I thought, had blonde hair. The other had a punkish hairstyle. They were neatly dressed," says Mr Amir.

As the two girls fell near the cafe, he saw the two men quickening their steps towards the Taj Mahal hotel further up the road.

A few minutes later, gunfire was heard from the hotel, and much later, Mr Amir heard that gunmen had taken guests hostage. (End of BBC extract)

Surely these are significant reports? The recounting of multiple attackers as white foreigners and men with blonde and punkish hair should have merit as a significant news story, should it not? One must ask then, why is it being ignored?

Note the BBC report quotes locals as saying that before the attackers pulled out their guns and began firing they walked into the café and drank beer.

This is not the behaviour of “Muslim extremists”, devout or otherwise, as Islam strictly prohibits the consumption of alcohol. Although, unsurprisingly perhaps given its reputation for glossing over the truth, the BBC omits to highlight this fact.

Likewise, the mainstream media continues to parrot accusations that "Islamic fanatics" were behind the attacks while evidence pointing to the involvement of Hindu extremists and/or white/Mossad operatives is largely ignored.

A Pakistani TV station has claimed "Hindu Zionists" and the Mossad carried out the Mumbai terrorist attacks, which it said were a "botched" imitation of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

The terrorists looked like Hindus and "no Pakistani speaks the language they chatted in," said security expert Zaid Hamid on the television's "I Differ" news channel show.

Hamid said that it was a "badly planned" operation that had gone horribly wrong. "The Americans executed the 9/11 attack perfectly. They managed the media very well. The Indians tried to repeat the formula but goofed up. The idiots made a complete mess of it," he argued.

He maintained that that the attackers wore saffron Hindu Zionist bands around their wrists and that during the first five minutes of the attack, three Indian counterterrorist officers were killed by authorities in order to halt their investigations of a terror network within India's security agencies. Another reason to end the probe, he said, was to divert attention to terrorism originating in Pakistan.

Pakistani leaders have rejected criticism for the Mumbai attacks, and President Asif Ali Zardari said his country is not to blame. He also said that the attack may be a tactic to divert attention from the ongoing war between Pakistan and terrorists.

Interior Ministry advisor Rehman Malik stated, "The Mumbai attacks were designed to force Pakistan to deploy its troops on the country’s eastern borders, thereby clearing the western borders for infiltration” into Afghanistan.

The Pakistan Daily Times editorialized that despite the confession of the single terrorist who was not killed by Indian commandos, "'confessions'" [are] no more credible than 'confessions' in such situations."
